Mark Serpis served as State Commander from 2009-2011.  He was unexpectedly elevated to State Commander following the unexpected resignation of his predecessor.  He was unanimously elected at the State Convention held in Sturbridge, MA by his peers in June of 2009, and reelected in June of 2010. 

Prior to becoming State Commander, Mark served as State Judge Advocate, and was also State Provost Marshal.

Before becoming a State Officer, Mark was very active at his Post, having held the several offices.  He was awarded the State Commander’s Special award in 2007.

His leadership brought many awards from the National Department.  Massachusetts received Department VAVS of the Year in 2010, Department VAVS 2nd Place in 2009, and Runner-up for Department of the Year in 2009.  Thanks to his efforts in travelling around the State, Massachusetts broke $460,000 in project reporting for the 1st time in 2011.  For this, the Department won the Department of the Year Award in 2011.

Mark married his fiancé Heidi Dineen on July 16th, 2011.  Heidi is a Past National and State President of the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary and is currently the National Parliamentarian for AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary.

Mark was appointed National Chaplain at the National Convention held in St. Louis, MO in 2011 by National Commander John Barnhill (MI).  He was elected National Provost Marshal in Daytona Beach in 2012.  In the same year, he received the National Commander’s Special Award for his outstanding service as National Chaplain.  He was elected to the office of National 3rd Vice Commander in Reno, NV in 2013, National 2nd Vice Commander in Memphis, TN in 2014 and National 1st Vice Commander in Birmingham, AL in 2015.  In August 2016, Mark become the third Son from Massachusetts elected to the office of National Commander.
